Material Management and Recycling Assistance as part of the Airport Sustainable Management Plan Development and Implementation (City of Atlanta Department of Aviation, Georgia)

The City of Atlanta Department of Aviation selected a team led by RS&H, which included GBB as a solid waste management expert, to assist with the development and implementation of a Sustainable Management Plan for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the world’s busiest airport by passenger traffic.

As part of this ambitious and wide-ranging project, GBB is leading tasks related to:

  • Waste management, reuse, recycling, and composting
  • Sustainable procurement and circular economy
  • Waste audits
  • Development of recommendations for the implementation of a comprehensive solid waste management program to achieve the zero waste goal

GBB is also a key contributor to:

  • Identifying opportunities to demonstrate new technologies and implement pilot projects to demonstrate efficiencies, innovation, and sustainability
  • Researching grant or funding sources and assisting with grant applications
  • Determining initiatives to address Greenhouse Gas emissions to reach 100% Clean and Renewable Energy Goal by 2035 and maintain Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) Certification
