Waste Characterization Study – C&D Debris on Military Bases (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Engineer Research and Development Center)
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Engineer Research and Development Center tasked Geocycle and GBB, as a subcontractor, to conduct waste characterization studies and develop a research program to demonstrate how Construction and Demolition (C&D) debris from across U.S. military installations may be used to create alternative fuels and alternative raw materials for the production of new, more sustainable construction materials.
As part of the assignment, the GBB Project Team performed waste characterization studies at Fort Liberty, NC; the Redstone Arsenal Military Base, AL; and the Fort Gordon Military Base, GA. GBB collected 30+ C&D samples over multiple days and sorted the samples into 23 categories to estimate the composition of the various materials on a weight basis. GBB analyzed the data and provided a report on the characterization results for each location, along with a statistical comparison of differences in the measured streams across locations.
