Fairfax, VA (December 6, 2012) – Gershman, Brickner & Bratton, Inc. (GBB) is pleased to announce that Stephen Simmons has joined the firm as Principal Associate. Mr. Simmons has over 30 years of experience with leading companies in the solid waste management and renewable energy fields, and brings a broad range of skills and expertise to GBB clients, including: project and construction management; technology assessment and selection; waste shed and energy market evaluation, sales, and contract negotiation; facility due diligence and acquisition management; environmental assessment and permit management; and budgeting and cost control.
Prior to joining GBB, Mr. Simmons served as Vice President of Project Development for the Plasco Energy Group where he led the development and permitting of waste conversion projects based upon Plasco’s plasma arc gasification process throughout North America and the Caribbean Basin. Before that, he served as Vice President of Business Development with Duke Energy Renewables where he led a team focused upon the development of a 600 MW fleet of forestry waste based power generation facilities.
Mr. Simmons spent 15 years with the American Ref Fuel Company (now part of Covanta Energy) where, as a Regional Business Manager, he held responsibility for all waste and power marketing, contract administration, and community and governmental affairs for the 3,348 ton per day waste-to-energy facility located in Chester, PA. During his tenure, the facility received the Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence for its community outreach efforts. He conceptualized and directed American Ref Fuel’s efforts to vertically integrate through the establishment of an independent waste collection division. Also while with American Ref Fuel, he served as the Project Engineer for the design and construction team that built the 2,800 ton per day Essex County Resource Recovery Facility located in Newark, NJ. As a project manager, he lead multiple project development and due diligence acquisition teams. He has also worked in the ethanol, biodiesel, and biogas industries.
