Consultant (II / Senior)

GBB is currently looking for solid waste management professionals interested in joining its dynamic and entrepreneurial team for the following positions, based on level of experience:

  • Consultant II
  • Senior Consultant

The candidate must be based in the continental United States. Title and salary will be commensurate with level of qualifications and experience.

Title: Consultant II or Senior Consultant

Reports to: Executive Vice President or other designated manager

Location: This is a position for work to be performed from a home office anywhere in the United States.

Position Overview:

Based on level of experience and qualifications, the Consultant will carry out and execute work from Project Managers as directed, assist Project Managers by completing project related tasks as assigned, may serve as a task manager on major components of large projects, or as a project manager of less complex projects, under the direction of a project manager and/or project director.

The successful candidates will possess a positive attitude, be a self-starter, comfortable with working alone and in teams, technically proficient math, and have superior oral and written communication skills. Ability to investigate, research, perform analysis and contribute to development of solutions and recommendations under direction and guidance.

Be willing to take direction and work with Senior Management, Project Management, and other Consulting Staff to develop work product deliverables, prepare proposals and execute marketing functions.

Functional Responsibilities: 

  • Perform project work assignments, and marketing activities, as directed by Project Manager (PM) or supervisor.
  • Inform PM as to progress of work and discusses with PM any difficulties in accomplishing assignment and its impact on hours assigned and projected time frame.
  • Refer client feedback to PM; and report needs, problems, or issues raised by client or other outside parties to PM.
  • Notify PM of any scheduling problems with publications.
  • Achieve direct labor utilization target and report to supervisor any problems in meeting utilization, project priority conflicts, or other related issues as soon as he/she becomes aware of them.
  • Participate in professional development activities to increase knowledge and skills.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    4-year Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, Environmental, or Planning from an accredited U.S. College, University, or equivalent international institution. Solid waste management training or related field a plus. Graduate Degree in related field is desirable for the Senior Consultant level.
  • Experience:

Consultant II position:

    • Two or more years of progressively responsible solid waste/environmental, science or engineering experience.

Senior Consultant position:

    • Five or more years of progressively responsible solid waste/environmental, science or engineering experience.
  • Relevant Skills: 

Consultant II position:

    • Applicant should know how to do computer-based modeling or life cycle cost estimates.
    • Preferable that applicant has demonstrated research and writing skills for one or more published papers.
    • Must demonstrate superior written and oral communication skills necessary to perform assignments.

Senior Consultant position:

    • Applicant should know how to do computer-based modeling or life cycle cost estimates.
    • Preferable that applicant has demonstrated research and writing skills for one or more published papers.
    • Strategic Planning experience desirable
    • Must demonstrate superior written and oral communication skills necessary to perform assignments.

Other Requirements:

  • Comply with GBB’s policies and procedures, including submission of administrative reports, timesheets, and other company-required documents and forms on a timely basis.
  • Travel, as needed, to perform assignments.
  • Work off-site, as needed, to perform assignments.
  • Able to work remotely with access to internet

Performance Factors:

Each staff person will normally be evaluated yearly on the following factors, as applicable, including:

Physical Demands:

This position will occasionally perform work in industrial sites and facilities and require travel as needed for project and company responsibilities. The work environment will require:

  • An ability to climb multiple flights of stairs and ladders and to work from high platforms.
  • An ability to work in hot and cold temperatures.
  • The ability to work in dusty atmospheres with proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • The ability to wear and work in appropriate personal protective equipment including safety shoes, safety glasses, full-face respirator, and hearing protection.
  • Night, weekend and off hours work may be necessary as needed by the project and the Company to coincide with facility shutdowns and construction/renovation work.
  • The ability to travel by car, plane, train, or other modes to job assignment locations domestically and internationally.
  • The ability to sit for extended periods of time to work on a computer or similar equipment.
