With a mission to reduce and manage solid waste in an environmentally conscious, effective, and economical way, Barnstable County, MA, selected GBB as a subcontractor to Tetra Tech to identify waste disposal trends and the demographic and economic influences that affect the generation and movement of waste and recyclable materials within the County and throughout Cape Cod.

As part of the study to examine what to do with recyclables and recovery of materials not intended for landfill or incineration from the 15 member towns, GBB was tasked with leading the stakeholder focus group meetings and providing key support to:

• Quantify and characterize 17 MSW components by region and on a town-by-town basis
• Identify and analyze potential Beneficial Use (BU) and processing requirements to transform MSW components into BU end-products.
• Identify processing facility needs and locations / Estimate facility costs
• Prepare a final report with a cost-benefit comparison / Develop an overall strategy
