According to the EPA, the waste industry accounted for just 2% of the greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. in 2018. But that’s not the whole picture because the only emissions sources included are landfills, wastewater treatment, and composting. In my Waste Watch feature, in Waste Today, I paint a more complete picture and challenges industry players to take a full-cost accounting approach to capture the true impact of the industry on climate change.
