Fairfax, VA (June 30, 2016) – Gershman, Brickner & Bratton, Inc. (GBB) announced today that for the second year in a row, it will co-sponsor the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA)’s Young Professionals (YP) booth at WASTECON, which takes place August 22-25, 2016 in Indianapolis, IN.

YP_SWANALOGO-sigSince 1980, GBB has mentored and empowered dozens of young professionals who have joined the firm as consultants or interns, instilling in them GBB’s work ethic and passion for solid waste management. The internship program has provided opportunities to motivated individuals to acquire hands-on experience in the solid waste management industry, further their knowledge in the environmental field, and work with GBB consultants.

“Young professionals that we have mentored have grown with GBB and many, with the valuable experience acquired, are now key members of the industry, contributing to the advancement of sound waste management programs, either in the private or public sector,” said GBB Vice President Lori Scozzafava. “We’re excited to contribute to the activities of SWANA’s YP group at WASTECON!”

In addition, GBB will be exhibiting at booth #1219, near the break zone, and speaking at the following sessions:

  • “Waste-to-Energy on a Very Small Scale: The Metlakatla Indian Community Experience”
    John Carlton, P.E., BCEE, Speaker
    Tuesday, August 23 at 5pm
  • “Waste-to-Energy Lessons Learned:  A 30-Year Evaluation on Why Projects Succeeded or Failed”
    Harvey Gershman, Speaker
    Wednesday, August 24 at 10:15am
  • “The Measure of Success:  How to Measure Recycling Program Success in the Era of the Changing Ton”
    John Carlton, P.E., BCEE, Speaker
    Thursday, August 25 at 10:15am

As defined by SWANA, a “Young Professional” is an individual, 35 or younger, in the solid waste industry. SWANA’s YP Group includes individuals who are passionate about the environment, the industry, and helping each other succeed. Members are eager to offer advice, brainstorm ideas, develop solutions, and share in the struggles and triumphs of working in this business. They are energetic, motivated, committed, and represent the next generation of SWANA. At WASTECON this year, the group will hold the inaugural Student Waste Design Competition, the Young Professionals Networking Reception, featuring the Minute Mentoring event, its annual meeting, and a broad array of activities in the Young Professionals booth, co-sponsored by GBB, near the break zone on the show floor.
