“I’m pleased to report that the Kent County Board of Public Works has approved the advancement of the Sustainable Business Park Master Plan that GBB developed. This is a pivotal moment for organizations, like Kent County Department of Public Works, who operate integrated solid waste management systems as we all begin to consider how to shift our dependence away from landfilling and towards sustainable materials management strategies.
GBB’s comprehensive approach to the development of this Master Plan will allow us to move seamlessly into the implementation phase. Your agency’s collective industry experience and willingness to bring local engineering consultants alongside the process has proven to be invaluable as we explore the variety of technologies in use across the world to help us reach our goals of reducing waste going to landfill by 90% by 2030.
Please extend my appreciation to all the GBB staff who helped us get to this point in our path. Your expertise and excitement for this project was critical in our success thus far.”

In a Court Order dated March 17, 2008, U.S. District Court Judge Frances M. Tydingco-Gatewood appointed GBB to be Receiver with full responsibility for bringing the Guam Solid Waste Management Division (SWMD) into compliance with the 2004 Consent Decree for violation of the Clean Water Act.
“The court is very proud of the work accomplished by the Receiver [GBB] over the last 11 years. The Ordot Dump has been closed, and the Receiver has installed the necessary systems to protect Guam’s waters from this environmental hazard that had plagued the island for decades. The Receiver has built a modern solid waste system for the island which includes a compliant solid waste landfill, a recycling program and a household hazardous waste disposal center.”
Chief Judge Frances Tydingco-Gatewood
in a Court Order dated April 29, 2019
“The court compliments the Receiver [GBB]’s continued efforts to ensure GSWA [Guam Solid Waste Authority] remains financially sound. The Receiver’s strong fiscal management will assure successful completion of the Consent Decree projects.”
Chief Judge Frances Tydingco-Gatewood
in a Court Order dated October 26, 2015
“The court finds the work performed by GBB and SWMD employees in concert with the various governmental agencies over the last two years truly impressive… What was once perceived as an insurmountable hurdle is now becoming a long awaited reality for the people of Guam.”
Chief Judge Frances Tydingco-Gatewood
in a Court Order dated April 9, 2010
“But the real reason for the recent boom in recycling has been the court-appointed federal receiver, Gershman, Brickner & Bratton Inc., which took over solid waste operations in March 2008. It’s done more for recycling than all local elected officials in the past few decades. […] We commend the receiver for doing what’s right, pressing forward with recycling, when our own elected officials lacked the political will to do so. And we strongly encourage residents — whether they’re included in the pilot project or not — to do what they can to recycle more.”

“The federal receiver, Gershman, Brickner & Bratton Inc., has the island’s thanks for fixing and improving the government’s solid waste program.” […] “In short, the receiver has transformed the way the island deals with its waste.”

“The City of Baltimore sought the most qualified consulting firm to assist with its efforts to update and optimize the City’s residential collection services. As such, the City contracted with GBB and C2Logix, and the work accomplished by these two firms was an astounding success. Not only were decades-old mixed refuse routes revamped, but the detailed investigative work completed by GBB in conjunction with the route optimization programming of C2Logix made for the convincing argument that Baltimore City should move towards a 1+1 residential collections program, which is precisely the path the City took.
The results have provided more efficient and cost-effective mixed refuse and recycling collections’ operations, while at the same time freeing enough other resources to undertake a much more comprehensive and cohesive citywide street and alley cleaning program.”

Former Division Chief, Routine Services

“We are very pleased with the results achieved and the significant role Gershman, Brickner & Bratton, Inc. played in the planning and execution of our Solid Waste and Recycling contracts. […] Your firm’s expertise in the solid waste management field was very beneficial for the City of Fort Wayne as can be seen by the competitive bids we received this past summer. Being able to lower residents’ monthly fees by $.24 per month is a welcome change from Solid Waste bids received in the past.”
Director of Public Works
City of Fort Wayne, Indiana
“GBB’s route optimization team greatly contributed to making our transition easier and successful. We are now using FleetRoute™ for both residential and commercial routes. The software makes route creating easier and more efficient than manual routing, especially given our high-growth environment.”
Director of Sanitation
“We were very pleased with the work product provided by GBB through our Solid Waste Export Plan–Third Party Review. I think the King County audience generally felt that the work was thought-provoking and insightful, reflecting a deep understanding of the dynamics of the solid waste management field.”
Legislative Coordinator for King County’s Council, Washington
“… thank you and your colleagues at GBB for your dedication, hard work and professionalism as we have worked together over the past seven years.”
“The dedication and willingness of your entire team to consistently exceed expectations is deeply appreciated.”
Former Director of Finance
Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, Tennessee
GBB’s assistance in articulating a plan that was able to address closing a number of inefficient landfills while creating a dependable regional disposal system was invaluable, especially your firm’s ability to draw a majority of the County’s 24 cities into the “Partnership Strategy” created by the plan. You will be pleased to know that 15 cities have entered into long-term waste delivery agreements with the County since the strategic plan was adopted.
I also appreciated GBB’s ability to navigate the sometimes treacherous political waters within County government and between the County and its cities. Having the largest County in the lower 48 states brings with it a host of socio-economic, environmental, and geographic issues that require clear analysis, quick thinking, and exceptional communication skills. GBB possesses each of those traits.”

“In a fast-tracked procurement process, GBB brought invaluable insight. The combination of GBB’s procurement experience and recognized C&D knowledge provided the County with the assurance that we were going in the right direction. And we received assistance for each step of the process during this crucial time.”

“We do appreciate everything that GBB did for us during the Initiative. We’re grateful for your perseverance, expertise, and patience during the project’s tenure. It was invaluable.
Thanks again for everything.”

“I would like to take this opportunity to let you [Harvey Gershman – Metro Nashville DES Project Administrator and GBB President] know how much I appreciated how you and your organization handled the transition from the old Thermal plant to the new District Energy System.
There were several aspects of the process that were done particularly well. First and foremost the communication from you to us, the customer, was consistently timely and thorough.
I absolutely appreciated the customer meetings that you hosted that gave us a voice in the decisions concerning service interruption scheduling. Once a decision had been made to schedule the interruption of service, you always stayed inside your time estimates. That was most impressive and pleasantly surprising. […] In the aftermath of the transition, we have had nothing but flawless service. You can count Ryman Auditorium as a “satisfied customer.”
“I know I can speak for the Trustees in saying that GBB has been of enormous assistance to us. The firm has guided us and the two jurisdictions’ solid waste operations through some challenging times. The Trustees have no hesitation in recommending GBB.”
Philip G. Sunderland, Esq.
Former City Manager and City Attorney
“We chose FleetRoute’s service bureau to develop our routes using GIS route optimization software because this approach provided a more economic, sophisticated, and faster solution than we could develop in-house. The service bureau gave us valuable access to the FleetRoute team’s extensive experience in waste collection and advanced route design. Using the service bureau allowed us not to worry about the methodology, but rather to focus on the most beneficial routing for the City of Edmond.”
City of Edmond, Oklahoma
“The survey [GBB’s 2006 national study, for the National Demolition Association, of the amount of demolition material generated annually] was incredibly helpful and will be part of the EPA 2006-2011 National Policy. These data influence EPA policy.”

“GBB worked to customize our waste characterization study to match our categorization needs for the analysis of our residential and institutional waste streams. The detailed analysis provided valuable data on the make of our current waste stream, including that about 25% of the waste stream is recyclable in our current system.”

“Over the years MSW Management has had the opportunity to feature a number of articles by GBB managers and staff from broad issue discussions to project-specific expositions. All have made positive contributions to the body of solid waste literature and reflect the breadth of GBB’s expertise in the MSW field.”
