GBB President Writes to Maryland Governor

Urges O'Malley to Recognize WTE as Clean, Renewable, Safe and Economical Source of Energy

WTEIn late April 2011, GBB President Harvey Gershman sent a letter to the Honorable Martin O'Malley, Governor of Maryland, urging him not to veto HB 1121/SB 690, which recognizes waste-to-energy as part of Maryland’s long-term renewable energy portfolio. After careful deliberation, on May 19, the Governor signed Senate Bill 690, reminding constituents that Maryland has an aggressive goal of generating 20% of its energy from Tier I renewable sources by 2022 and intends to achieve that goal through as much in-state energy generation as possible, including waste-to-energy.
