Marketing & Proposals Manager (Remote/Virtual)

Our Northern Virginia-based company (with primarily remote-based staff) works in a matrix management style providing services that enable our clients to do more with less.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Marketing and Proposals Manager is responsible for implementing the corporate marketing program to enhance GBB’s growth and increase positive public knowledge of the Company as a leading professional services consulting firm in the fields of sustainable materials management, solid waste management and the circular economy. The Manager is responsible for the development and timely submission of sales and marketing deliverables, while also managing the Company’s communications, media relations, and the management of marketing and sales data. This hands-on role will include writing and editing compelling and competitive proposals, developing and tracking leads within a CRM program, maintaining GBB’s website, coordinating the writing of articles for industry publications, and managing the company’s attendance and participation at industry conferences.
Work at GBB is conducted in a matrix management, primarily virtual, environment. Therefore, responsibilities are performed on an independent basis, and the Manager must demonstrate a positive attitude and be a self-starter, taking ownership of documents from start to delivery of both electronic and/or hard copy proposal submissions. The Manager will collaborate with a diverse professional team including project managers, engineers, environmental specialists, and senior management, as well as clients around the world, creating and managing the work assigned, including the development of persuasive messages, qualifications statements, and presentations. The Manager must demonstrate superior verbal, written and editing communication skills, being able to navigate the challenge of marketing work and different people worked with, both internally and externally. Also, the role will require the ability to use many sources and resources, including an experienced use of programs such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and other graphics software.
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Manager’s responsibilities include marketing and sales function’s scope, schedule, budget, etc. with collaboration and guidance, as needed, from the Company President including, but not limited to, the following main duties:
- Manage all aspects of Proposals from the RFP Process through hands-on development of the documents meeting all requirements, including writing, production and submission of proposals and related materials and delivery whether electronically or hard copy by due dates.
- Work with the Company President and Owners to develop the Annual Marketing Plan including scope, schedule and budget.
- Manage proposal development and management including, but not limited to, ongoing review of Request for Proposals (RFPs) received, tracking additional opportunities for consideration, and reviewing all opportunities with Company President.
- Develop and manage brand communications including, but not limited to, company website, social media, newsletter, webinars, press releases and other brand communications.
- Manage and coordinate with staff assigned to write proposal content sections.
- Manage all logistics at industry events, when the company has an exhibit booth, including registration, shipment of materials, booth set-up and breakdown, attendance, and operation of booth.
- Coordinate the annual selection of industry conferences, seminars, and webinars with the Company President, regarding hosting or attendance, and document all in the annual Conference Plan.
- Coordinate with professional staff the writing and placement of thought leadership articles, blogs, technical papers, etc. in industry publications or trade journals.
The Manager must demonstrate:
- A positive attitude, be a self-starter, comfortable managing marketing functions with detail oriented and multi-tasking abilities.
- Comfortable working both alone and in teams, virtually and on site, with strong interpersonal and customer service skills to lead the completion of proposals.
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills including writing, copywriting, proofing, editing and publishing multi-author documents and press releases.
- Demonstrated expertise with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software.
- Strong demonstrated knowledge of graphics software programs and best practices.
- Experience in digital marketing including maintaining websites, and Company business social media sites and coordinating webinar production and delivery.
- Ability and demonstrated willingness to meet deadlines for submitting all work, including external deadlines and compressed production schedules on assignments.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree, highly preferred to be in Marketing, Communications, Graphics Design, Journalism, Media Studies, or other related discipline, from an accredited U.S. College or University or evaluated equivalent international institution.
OR
Four (4) to six (6) years of related Marketing work experience, in addition to the experience noted below, may be considered to replace degree requirement.
- Strong applied knowledge of graphics and editing software programs, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Creative Suite (including InDesign, Photoshop & Illustrator) products is highly preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of Five (5) years or more of progressively responsible experience in Marketing functions, with at least:
- 3 or more years in a management capacity overseeing marketing functions (experience highly preferred to be in a professional services consulting firm, but not required).
- Highly preferred: 2-3 years of experience in marketing including coordinating, scheduling, editing, and producing proposals, documents, and presentations.
- Highly preferred: 2+ years of graphic design experience developing graphics and working with graphics standards, with demonstrated experience improving overall presentation of marketing and project materials. Strong knowledge of related graphics software programs, as noted above, is highly preferred.
- Three (3) or more years working in the architecture, engineering, or consulting industries very helpful, but not required.
- Demonstrated business use of online social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
- Demonstrated advanced working knowledge using Microsoft Excel.

- Must have a valid current U.S. State driver’s license.
- Be able to maintain criminal background clearances as required by clients and the Company.
- Solid waste management, sustainability training, or related field helpful but not required.
REPORTS TO: Company President
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position will occasionally perform work in offices, convention centers or industrial facilities and require travel as needed for company responsibilities. The work environment will require:
- Ability to lift and carry 30 pounds.
- Ability to set up tables, booths, other furniture and materials etc. for events.
- Night, weekend and off hours work may be necessary as needed for due dates and conferences, etc.
- An ability to work in hot and cold temperatures as required, for example, in conference facilities.
- An ability to travel as needed domestically in the U.S. by car, plane, train, or other modes to job assignment locations.
- Ability to work in an office or virtually as needed for assignments, sitting for long periods of time doing computer work.
SALARY RANGE:
Dependent upon experience and level hired, the salary range considered for this full-time exempt salaried role is $90-110K on an annualized basis.
